An empty box always brings about fun cardboard craft ideas. Making a homemade dollhouse is just one of endless possibilities. It's easy to make and will provide hours of entertainment for your kids. Adult supervision required.
What You'll Need:
Large Cardboard Box
Bounty Paper Towels for Cleanup
Cut all four flaps off of the top of your box and save the pieces. Parents will need to help with this step.
Set the box on its side the long way so that it opens out toward you, and decide where you'd like everything to go. On one of the shorter sides, cut open a flap to form a door for your dollhouse. You can also cut out small squares for windows.
Use one of the larger flaps you cut from the top of the box to create a second floor. Stand the flap up in the center to form a straight divider down the middle of the box. Cut smaller pieces of cardboard, fold them into an "L" shape, and use them for supports. Tape the supports in place along the underside of the second floor. You will probably need three to four supports spaced out to make it really sturdy.
Now it's time to get really creative furnishing the dollhouse. Use your imagination to come up with some cardboard craft ideas for the remaining extra flap pieces you have left. For example, a small piece can be folded to create a table and chairs for the kitchen or a sofa for the living room. Another idea is to create a refrigerator. To do this, fold a small flap along a rectangular piece of cardboard and tape the flap to the wall of your kitchen. You can draw on a handle and place stickers of food on the inside.
Using markers, construction paper, stickers, and any remaining cardboard, decorate your homemade dollhouse. You can add paintings on the wall, a rug for the floor, curtains for your windows, or anything you can think of to make it a cozy space for your little one's dolls to hang out.
