Whether you're headed to a friend's house to watch the big game, or you're the hostess, plan on making festive, football-theme party snacks. For dessert, serve a football cake. You don't have to be a professional baker to create a two-layer cake that will have your guests asking for seconds before halftime. Here's how to transform two sheet cakes into a football-shaped treat! Adult supervision required.
What You'll Need:
Two Sheet Cakes
White Icing in a Tube
Pudding (Vanilla or Chocolate)
Bounty Quilted Napkins
Purchase two pre-made sheet cakes from your favorite bakery. Since the football cake will be frosted with chocolate frosting, consider using white, chocolate or marble sheet cakes.
Place one of the sheet cakes on a serving platter. Use a butter knife to spread pudding over the layer of cake. Choose vanilla or chocolate-flavored pudding. This step is perfect for kids to help out with.
Put the second sheet cake on top of the pudding. Line up the edges so the cake layers are stacked evenly.
Use the cake knife to trim the layers into a wide oval shape to resemble a football. Save the scraps of cakes for a snack.
Frost the layered cake using a clean butter knife and chocolate frosting. Make the frosting as smooth and even as possible.
Finish the football cake by drawing football laces on the top of the cake using white icing in a tube. Draw one curved horizontal line along the center of the football with several perpendicular lines to represent the football lacing.
Optional: Add decorations to the cake in your favorite team's colors.
Tips: Try using strawberry, chocolate or vanilla-flavored whipped topping as a filling instead of pudding. Serve slices with Bounty NFL prints or Bounty quilted napkins.
