Sometimes, you need a bit of creepiness and maybe even a tiny bit of gore while you are enjoying one of America's most favorite little treats. These brain cupcakes make perfect party treats for older kids or even the grownups. What makes them really nice is when people bite into a brain cupcake, they are surprised by some scrumptious gory red goo in the middle. These festive cupcakes are always a favorite.

What You'll Need:

Red Velvet Cupcakes
Strawberry or Cherry Jam
Buttercream Frosting
Pink and Black Food Coloring
Cherry Coulis (Optional)
Melon Baller
Piping Bag
8-Mm Piping Nozzle
Bounty Quilted Napkins

Instructions:

Use a melon baller to create holes in the middle of the cupcakes and fill with jam. This jam can be store-bought or homemade. A slightly thinner consistency is better to get the really gory effect so if you use store-bought, add a few drops of warm water to the jam.

Put the buttercream frosting in a bowl and add pink and black food coloring slowly until it has a grey-pink tinge (like a brain!) and scoop into the piping bag.

Squeeze the cream on one half of the cupcake, allowing it to overlap and dome slightly. Repeat on the other side. It is okay if they aren't perfect. Something gory may have happened to the brain, after all!

If you want to add a bit more gore to the cupcakes, drizzle some cherry coulis on top of the buttercream brain matter. A little goes a long way here! These treats are super messy, so serve with folded Bounty paper towels or Bounty quilted napkins.
