When the time comes to take down the Christmas tree, there are some definite steps to follow to ensure a clean house and easy removal. Putting up the tree is a lot of fun, but alas, the day will come when we must say goodbye to Christmas. You probably already have the supplies you will need at home, but the rest can be bought at a local grocery store.
What You'll Need:
Extra Large Plastic Bag to Cover the Tree
Broom and Dustpan
Skirt for the Christmas Tree
Bounty Paper Towels
Gather up all your cleaning supplies before tearing down the Christmas tree. Remove all ornaments and wipe them off with a damp Bounty paper towel before putting them away. Remove all the tinsel and garlands.
Carefully put the plastic bag over the tree. Take the tree out through the closest door. Make sure not to run into furniture or pictures. Lay the tree on the driveway or curb outside your home.
Check ahead of time with your garbage service to see if they will pick up the Christmas trees. If not, you can find a local tree disposal location online.
Shake the skirt that was under the tree out in a waste can. Having a skirt around the Christmas tree is helpful, as it will catch most of the fallen tree needles.
Sweep the floor or carpet with a broom and dustpan to collect the rest of the needles that remain on the floor. Vacuum the floor and use the attachment for cleaning the furniture to get into the corners.
If the tree has a holder with water, soak up the water with Bounty paper towels and remove the holder from the tree trunk once it's outside.
After the tree has been removed, sweep the tree needles off the cement area.
