A pet equals great fun for pet owners as well as exciting times for furry love one! Unfortunately, sometimes your pet's excitement and personality can translate into unpleasant messes. Stock up on paper towels and expect a few mishaps until your new pet gets used to your family. In the meantime, prepare yourself with these cleaning tips for pet owners.

Pet Urine Cleaning

What You Need:

Bounty Paper Towels
Soda Water or White Vinegar
Liquid Laundry Detergent
Soft Bristled Scrub Brush

Instructions:

Firstly, put on the rubber gloves. For urine spots, soak up the excess moisture first. Fold several Bounty paper towels to make a pad that will cover the wet spot on the floor or upholstery. Place sheets of paper towels over the affected spot. You can also place some old newspaper or brown bags on top of the paper towels to ensure maximum absorption.

Gently press the pad on the wet spot until you see moisture soaking through the paper towel pad. Remove the pad and throw it in the trash. Make another pad and once again press it on the wet spot, and throw it away. Keep folding, pressing, and throwing away paper towel pads until the wet spot looks dry.

To get rid of urine odor, pour either soda water or white vinegar over the soiled area until the carpet or fabric fibers become saturated. To remove the soda water or white vinegar, repeat the previous steps with the paper towel pads until the pads don't pick up any moisture on the fibers.

Spray the area with the multipurpose cleaner or pour either soda water or white vinegar over the solid area until the surface or fabric fibers become saturated. With the paper towel pads wipe and absorb any moisture.

Alternatively wet a sponge in a bucket of warm water and thoroughly wipe the area. The area must be rinsed in order for this pet urine removal technique to be affective. Rinse the sponge often in the bucket of warm water.

Finally dry the area with some paper towels. Spray the area with the pet neutralizer to help eliminate the odor. Eliminating the odor will discourage them from urinating in that spot again. Empty the bucket and wipe it clean with some paper towels. When done, discard the soiled paper towels and newspaper/brown bags in a receptacle outside.

Pet Poop Removal

If your pet's accident included both solid waste and urine, you'll need to pick up the solid waste with paper towels first. Pour a few drops of detergent on the soiled area and gently scrub until all signs of the solid waste disappear. Then do the soda water or vinegar step described above.

If your pet keeps having accidents as it grows older, you will need to adapt these cleaning tips for new pet owners by replacing gentle cleaners with stronger cleaning products.

How to Remove Pet Hair

If you own multiple pets, you have pet hair around the house. Here are a few cleaning tips that will enable you to remove pet hair from your couch or chair in just a few minutes.

What You Need:

Warm Water
Sponge
White Vinegar
Spray Bottle
Garbage Can
Bounty Paper Towels

Instructions:

Step One: Remove all pillows and blankets from the furniture

Take them outside and give them a quick shake to release the pet hair. Make sure to keep the door shut to prevent a breeze from blowing the fur back into your home.

Step Two: Place the pillows and blankets back on the furniture

Now, concentrate on removing pet hair from exposed upholstered surfaces including armrests, dust ruffles, and cushions.

Step Three: Soak a sponge in warm water

Squeeze the sponge to remove most of the water. Wipe the damp sponge over the furniture. Use short sweeping motions to make the pet fur ball roll up onto itself. Remove the clumps as they form and toss them in the garbage.

Does your furniture have a mild pet odor? One of my favorite cleaning tips is to spray the sponge with a 1:10 mixture of white vinegar and water; then, wipe the furniture. The white vinegar will neutralize the pet odor. When the cleanser dries, the vinegar odor will dissipate as well.

Turn on a ceiling fan to help the furniture dry more quickly. The extra air circulation will also help to freshen the air in the room.

How to Wash Pet Pillows

Pet pillows can get really dirty, even from the daintiest of pets. By cleaning them regularly you can extend their life and help to keep your pet clean and comfortable.

What You Need:

Liquid Laundry Detergent
Stain Pre-Treater
Bounty Paper Towels

Instructions:

  1. Check any care tags on the pillow to see if the manufacturer recommends any particular cleaning method. Unless the pillow is very small, it's probably too large for your washing machine. If it can fit in your washing machine easily and it's machine washable, wash it on gentle cycle with liquid laundry detergent

  2. If the pillow is too large for your washing machine, fill your bathtub with cool water. If the pet bed has a removable cover, remove it. While the tub is filling, check the pillow and its cover for any stains. Treat these stains with a laundry stain pretreater.

  3. Add two to three tablespoons of liquid laundry detergent to the tub, and swish the water to distribute the detergent.

  4. Add the pillow and the cover to the tub and wash them by hand.

  5. Drain the tub and rinse the pillow and cover with cool water. If necessary, fill the tub again with cool water and soak the pet pillow for a few minutes to work the soap from it. Rinse again and wring the pillow out as much as possible.

  6. Allow the pillow to air dry outside in sunlight. Putting the pet pillows in the dryer can break them down and will not dry them thoroughly. You may want to clean your tub with your favorite cleaner and Bounty paper towels after washing your pet pillows in there!

Make Your Own Pet Cleaner

If you have a pet, you probably have had to deal with the occasional pet mess, especially if your animal friend is very young or very old. These accidents not only leave odor behind, but can stain hard surfaces, carpets and rugs. A pet cleaner is an effective solution to remove animal waste from your home and neutralize odors. There are many products on the market, but you can also use regular household items to create homemade cleaners that are cheaper and simple to prepare.

What You Need:

Bounty Paper Towels
White Vinegar
Water
Spray Bottle

Instructions:

The best time to tackle pet mess is right after it occurs. Use Bounty paper towels to pick up the mess when it is still wet. Once the mess dries, it is harder to clean up.

Create a cleaning solution by mixing one part white vinegar and one part water into a spray bottle.

Spray the soiled area liberally with the pet cleaner solution. Wait a few minutes for the solution to work its way into the soiled area.

Wipe the area clean with a paper towel. Then dry the area with another paper towel.

White vinegar is an excellent all-purpose cleaner. Vinegar also helps disinfect the soiled area. You can use this solution on tile or vinyl floors, as well as on carpets and rugs.

For carpets and rugs, allow the solution to sink down into the deepest layers of the fabric. Then place a few paper towels over the soiled areas. By stepping on the paper towels, you absorb the cleaning solution. For stubborn pet messes on the carpet, repeat the cleaning process
