Paper towel crafts are a fun way to jazz up an otherwise boring afternoon. These brilliantly colored butterflies will melt away those dreary blues in no time. These directions will help you make two rainbow butterflies. Adult supervision required.
What You'll Need:
Two Sheets of Bounty Paper Towels
Two Clothespins
Watercolor Paints
Paintbrush
Paper Cup
Bottle of Glue
Two Pipe Cleaners
Spool of String
Instructions:
Begin by laying out the two sheets of Bounty paper towels. Fill the paper cup halfway with water. Moisten the watercolor paints with a damp paintbrush.
Paint the two Bounty paper towels. Use lots of bright colors for cheerful-looking butterflies.
When you have finished painting, lay the paper towels in the sun to dry. While you are waiting for the paint to dry, prepare the bodies of your easy rainbow butterflies.
Pick up one of the pipe cleaners. Attach one of the clothespins to the center of the pipe cleaner. Insert the pipe cleaner all the way into the clothespin so that it rests against the spring.
Bend each end of the pipe cleaner upward to form a pair of antennae for your rainbow butterfly. I think it is fun to curl the ends or bend them into wavy shapes.
Repeat with the second clothespin. You now have two butterfly bodies for your Bounty paper towel crafts.
After the painted Bounty paper towels have dried, fold each one into an accordion. Do this by folding one edge down about one inch. Fold it again in the opposite direction. Continue until both Bounty paper towels are completely folded.
Pick up one of the folded paper towels. Pinch the center and twist it slightly. Allow the outer edges to unravel.
Attach a clothespin body to the center of each paper towel. Arrange the paper towel wings until you are happy with the result. Use a little glue on the inside edges to secure the paper towel wings to the clothespin bodies.
Cut a piece of string at least four feet long. When you look at one of the clothespins from the side, you will see a circular tunnel created by the spring. Insert one end of the string into this tunnel.
Tie both ends of the string together. You now have a nifty way to hang your special paper towel crafts anywhere you like.
